It’s different to our Classic Rocky Road and is made with candy coated chocolate mini-eggs. As you can see from the picture, the decoration is a nest of mini-eggs on the top. But that’s not all. The crushed digestive biscuits and marsh mallows are still there, but with the gorgeous addition of crushed mini-eggs. So, the flavour of a rocky road remains but with the crunch of mini-egg candy shells and the mellow milk chocolate flavour of the mini-egg centre.

Everyone who has tried them really liked them. And you don’t have to be a fan of rocky road. Rocky Road isn’t my favourite but I really like these. Why not try them? Get a full box of them for Easter or just include one with your normal order. The are also available as bites.

Remember, they are only here for Easter (-: and maybe a few days after, just in case :-).

For me, Valentine’s Day is associated with champagne, flowers and chocolates. I can’t do the champagne and flowers. However, I can do the chocolate. If your significant other is a lover of cakes and you want something original, then why not try some heart shaped treats.

What is the thing about Burns Night?

Well there’s haggis. Not much I can do with this, unless anyone fancies a haggis brownie. Same goes for the neeps and tatties.

Maybe I should focus on the drink rather than the food. Whisky!

What would go with the Whisky?

A little while ago, I tried something I’d never even considered. It was an accompaniment to a lovely single malt scotch, one of my brownies. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and a free whisky to boot. I gave it a go.

What brownie was this, you may ask? It was my Orange Chocolate Brownie.

I tried it. What a revelation. It did exactly as described. It was wonderful. The orange did something that the others couldn’t do. The flavour with whisky was divine.

Our great reviews

Since Bakes and Brownies launched earlier in 2020, we have had some great reviews. I thought I would share some of them here, before explaining how you can get rewards for reviews.

Rewards for reviews

When you submit a review and have it published, you will earn the reward. The reward is in the form of Loyalty Points, which can be redeemed when making your next purchase. Therefore, you need to have an account with us. (Note: Customers that have purchased as a Guest, will have all their previous points credited to them, if they set up an account).

A general review of Bakes and Brownies can be submitted on any page of the website, by scrolling to the “Submit a Review” section in the side bar or at the bottom of the page, filling in the simple form and selecting “Submit your review”. If you have previously purchased a product, you can review that in the “Reviews” section of the relevant product page.

“What about us?”, say those that have already submitted reviews. Well, we haven not forgotten you. Customers that have already had a review published and have an account will receive the same reward for your published reviews.

Unfortunately, you can only get a review published, for the same thing, once every 6 months. However, you can write a general review for Bakes and Brownies and a review for each product that you have purchased. If you have purchased a lot of different products, you could do well out of this.

What are the rewards?

Good question. The rewards are quite simple. Each published review gets you a reward of 50 loyalty points. That is the equivalent of 50p. The points reward will appear in your Loyalty Points balance, which you can find under the “My Account” item in the main menu.

Are there any limits on the personal message?

Yes, there are. At the moment, the message can only be text and the formatting will be done here. Generally, they will look like the messages shown here. If you would like something different, please ask.

Obviously, there is a limit to the amount of text in the message, but nobody has reached it yet. It also depends on the eyesight of the person that you are sending it too. Maybe best to keep it short and sweet.

Where do I put the message?

Telling us what message you would like is easy. Just type it into the Order Notes box at Checkout. It is just under the Billing Details. See the image below.

The box might look small, but it just scrolls up as you type. So, you can put as much as you like in there. Why not try it on your next order.

How is the message included?

We print the message, crop it to size and then include it in the box, on top of the goodies. In the case of Bites Boxes, we include it in the mailing box, on top of the Bites Box. This way the recipient sees the message as soon as they open the box.

So, next time you place an order, remember that you can include a message, even if it is to yourself.

Bakes and Brownies delivered to your door

Maybe you didn’t realise that we can deliver our Bakes and Brownies to you. Maybe you weren’t aware that we can deliver to anywhere in the UK. We can and have delivered all over the UK. See some of the places we have delivered to recently.

1st Class Delivery

We use Royal Mail 1st Class, which aims to deliver the next working day, including Saturdays. Next day delivery is important to us, to ensure the quality of the product is as good as it can be, after going through the mailing process.

The delivery fee is a flat rate of £3 for any order to a single location, no matter what the size or quantity. So, the more you order, the better the value.

How long does it take?

Typically, we require two working days to prepare your package, not including the day that you ordered. So, if you order on Monday, we will do our best to despatch the package on Wednesday. We do not despatch on Saturdays though. The reason for this is that there is no mail delivery on Sunday, so your package would sit in the sorting office for a whole extra day and might affect the quality of the product.

Packaging

We use good, sturdy boxes to pack our Bakes and Brownies for mailing. They were selected to reduce the movement of the contents as much as possible during handling. It is our priority to make sure that the quality of the product is as good when it arrives as it was when it left us.

Each package is put into a mailing bag. You can discard the mailing bag and know that the goods have not been handled during transport.

Environment

We endeavour to use environmentally friendly packaging, where possible. All of our packaging is either recyclable or reusable or both. The mailing bags can be reused once and are also compostable. Mailing boxes and bags are made from sustainable or recyclable materials.

Why Millionaire’s Ginger?

Millionaire’s Ginger is easy. Technically there is no baking involved, as it doesn’t go in the oven. Does it count for National Baking Week Day 2 then? Well, there are a few typical baking processes involved though. The buttery, ginger biscuit base is made and then set. The caramel needs to be heated with a careful eye on the pan and a careful hand mixing constantly. Then the whole thing is finished off with melted chocolate and honeycomb.

I like my Millionaire’s Ginger because it has a lovely gingery ginger biscuit base and it has a luxurious treacly caramel. It was going to be a Millionaire’s Ginger Shortbread, but there’s no shortbread in it. The topping of rich dark chocolate offsets the sweetness of the caramel and the sprinkles of honeycomb give a bit of crunch.

Simplicity

Simplicity is the key here. Millionaire’s Ginger doesn’t need anything else. Just a single helping with a cup of tea. After all, it had a crumbly biscuit and a caramel sauce like centre, all topped off with chocolate and honeycomb. Why would you need anything else?

Chocolate on chocolate

The Triple Chocolate Brownie is the original brownie that started it all off. It is many peoples favourite and it is certainly one of mine. That’s why I chose this brownie to go with the chocolate brownie Ice cream. Just two items, just right. Simple is as simple does.

You might think that chocolate brownie with chocolate ice cream is just too much chocolate, and it might be better with vanilla. Well not for chocoholics. There is never enough chocolate, so an extra bit is good. You could add a bit of chocolate sauce, if you really want to over do it. Maybe a few chocolate shavings too. Or would that be just too much?

Hot and cold

A tried and tested contrast for desserts is hot and cold. Obviously, ice cream is the cold bit. So, the brownie must be the hot bit. I simply put the brownie onto a plate and placed it in the microwave. One minute on full power and it was hotter than hell. Maybe a bit less would be good, but it was OK. I didn’t dare put the plate directly on my table immediately though, in case it marked it. Then I spooned out three scoops of ice cream and looked at it and it was good.

Resistance

It was almost irresistible, but I had to resist tucking in. I needed some photos for this post. Luckily the two best ones were the first ones. Now I could sit down and eat it.

It was as good as it looks and the perfect size for dessert. A great way to celebrate National dessert Day.

Classic Millionaire’s Shortbread

The familiar layers of buttery shortbread, smooth caramel and rich dark chocolate, decorated with a swirl of milk and white chocolate. If, like me, you love Millionaire’s Shortbread, you’ll love this.

Millionaire’s Ginger

How about a twist on a popular millionaire’s shortbread. A twist of ginger. It has a ginger biscuit base and a darker more treacly caramel. The whole thing is topped with a rich dark chocolate, to counter the sweet treacle caramel. The chocolate top is decorated with crushed honeycomb for added texture.

Classic Rocky Road

The Classic Rocky Road is the simple mixture of biscuit, marshmallow and chocolate. Like our Classic Millionaire’s Shortbread, why change a good thing.

Ginger Rocky Road

Similar to a normal rocky road but with the marshmallow replaced by ginger biscuits and the chocolate made darker. It will resemble those chocolate ginger biscuits that you get at Christmas, but better.
